Altered Books Reception

Friday, October 25, 2024 (5:30 PM - 6:30 PM) (CDT)

Description

"Some book-lovers may find it hard to believe, but many books outlive their usefulness and timeliness of information. Using an old book as a canvas for artwork or as the basis of a sculptural or functional object gives it new life. Have fun while helping the library use up its piles of old books by making an altered book during Arts & Humanities Month!

To participate, sign up at the Information Desk at Marshalltown Public Library. Staff have a selection of books that can be used for projects, but you can also use your own book or one you find from a thrift store, etc. Return your altered book to the library's Information Desk anytime during the month of October before 7:00pm on Thursday, October 24 to allow time to set up the reception display. Small cards will be created with the artist's name and title (optional).

The Altered Books Reception will be held on Friday, October 25th from 5:30-6:30pm in the Community Meeting Room at the library. Participants' altered books will be on display and refreshments will be served at this free event open to the public. Participants are encouraged to be present to answer questions about how they made their work, but attendance at the reception is optional.

For questions or further information, please contact the library's Information Desk at 641-754-5738 ext. 4."
