September 12 from 3-4 p.m. in meeting room AB of the Marshalltown Public Library. In The Blink Of An Eye: Short Stories To Keep You Up At Night features pieces that are gleefully macabre, peppered with humor and irony, and served with a healthy dose of vengeance, in the style of The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. In this debut collection, Sara Jordan-Heintz, an award-winning journalist and Pushcart Prize-nominated writer, preys upon our deeply-rooted fears and anxieties, begging the question: is horror much different than real life? Thirty tales. Thirty chills. Jordan-Heintz is a former staff writer and contributing writer for the Times-Republican. She leads The Write Club, a monthly group for aspiring and established writers that meets monthly at the Marshalltown Public Library. The September 12 event will feature her reading selected short stories from her book, time for Q&A and the purchase of signed copies ($10) plus she will have copies of her prior books available for sale, including Going Hollywood: Midwesterners in Movieland and The Incredible Life & Mysterious Death of Dorothy Kilgallen. The talk is appropriate for ages 16 and up.
