"The Marshalltown Public Library has received funding from Humanities Iowa, a private, non‐profit, to host a presentation called Savor Iowa's Culinary History by Darcy Maulsby at 2:00pm on April 14. The presentation will take place in the library's meeting rooms. A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and historical programs and grants to Iowa's communities.


Savor Iowa’s amazing food heritage! Iowa’s delectable cuisine is quintessentially Midwestern, grounded in its rich farming heritage and spiced with diverse ethnic influences. From the chili-and-cinnamon-rolls phenomenon to Maid-Rites to the moveable feast known as RAGBRAI, discover the remarkable stories behind Iowa classics and savor a smorgasbord of other unique Iowa food traditions with this fun, interactive program. Relish the tantalizing tidbits you missed in history class! This program is based on Darcy’s top-selling book “A Culinary History of Iowa: Sweet Corn, Pork Tenderloins, Maid-Rites and More” from The History Press.


Darcy is an author from Lake City, Iowa that writes about Iowa history. In addition to "A Culinary History of Iowa", Maulsby has also written about the Lincoln Highway in Iowa, Iowa agriculture, and more.
