UnityPoint Health’s ambulance service is partnering with Theisen’s and the Salvation Army to host its annual Fill the Rig event. 

It will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, inside the Theisen’s store at 602 Iowa Ave. West in Marshalltown.

UnityPoint Health is collecting toys, puzzles, clothes and other children’s items this holiday season for the Salvation Army. The donations help the first responders load up an ambulance (or “Fill the Rig”) to help make the holidays brighter for under-resourced families in the area.

“We know how special this time of the year can be for kids,” said Tonya Lemire, an Advanced EMT with UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown. “It doesn’t sit right with our hearts to know that some families struggle to give their kids a fun holiday. It’s the right thing to do, and our team gets a huge thrill and enormous sense of gratitude knowing we’re bringing smiles to children’s faces.”
