Description
Legacy Exhibit: Honoring Helen Fitz
Join us in celebrating the life and artistry of Helen Fitz of Melbourne, Iowa for a special exhibit opening on Friday, October 17th from 5-7 PM at the ACA in Downtown Marshalltown.
Helen was a gifted portrait painter who worked in oils, acrylics, and watercolor, often taking classes at the Fisher Community Center to refine her skills. Her talents extended beyond painting—she enjoyed woodcarving, with some pieces exhibited at the New York Folk Art Museum in New York City, as well as painting ceramics and restoring antique furniture. Helen was also an avid collector, always searching for antique jewelry and furniture to restore and resell, sharing her eye for beauty with others.
This unique exhibit will feature works on loan by several of Helen's family and those owned by local enthusiasts. It was the discovery of those pieces in 2013, that ultimately led to this showing.
We are delighted that Helen's daughter Mary from Des Moines, and sons Eric, from Colorado Springs, and Mike from Melbourne, will be joining us at the opening reception. We hope you do too!
