Love Is a Mystery by Edie Goodwin, is a winner of the 2024 Marshalltown Community Theatre's playwriting competition. The play is the story of two married couples who inadvertently meet at a restaurant, and learn that each one of them is engaged in an affair. One competition judge noted that this play highlights that "we all need more attention and explicit expressions of love and respect, without which we cannot thrive. Some can find their way back to it, if respect still exists. . ." Edie Goodwin lives in Council Bluffs, and in addition to her playwriting skills, she has authored the novel "Bertie's Place". This production of "Love Is a Mystery" features the talents of MCT veterans Lisa Naig, Josh Krough, Michelle Roseburrough, Carter Richerodt and Becky Moundson. Directed by Rick Gooding and Becky Moundson.

Family Reunion by Pete Grady of Marshalltown. "Family Reunion" tells the story of an unhappy elderly woman who has been placed in a nursing home by her children. The woman claims she does not belong in the home and argues with her children and a staff member, but admits that she can no longer safely live in her home. The MCT committee which recommended this play for production called it "poignant--anyone who has lived through this experience will relate." The cast includes MCT veterans Lana Bradstream, Ryan Grabau, and Sammuel Wilder, who are joined by Trudy Sharp in her first MCT performance. "Family Reunion" is directed by Pete Grady and Jonathan Kirner, and produced by Janine Campbell.

The Gravedigger by Quinn Young, is a surrealist play which lays bare the story of a man, his son, and the tragedies they have suffered. "The Gravedigger" was a winner of the 2024 Marshalltown Community Theatre's playwriting competition. Judges called the play "captivating, almost poetic at times" and "interesting, arresting, full of movement and message. . ." Quinn Young, currently a student at Iowa State University, was born in Michigan and raised in Iowa. This powerful script is brought to life by the performances of MCT veterans Troy Gould, Jonathan Kirner and Carter Richerodt. Regular theatre patrons will remember Gould for his portrayal of Ichabod Crane in the 2022 MCT production of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" performed at the Grimes Farm amphitheatre. Gould is a Cloris nominee and Iowa Community Theatre Association award winner for Best Lead Performance in the Ankeny Community Theatre's production of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?". In addition to his on-stage role in "The Gravedigger", Jonathan Kirner directed the show, assisted by Pete Grady.
