Seeing Space: Celebrating Webb Telescope

Friday, November 12, 2021 (4:30 PM - 6:00 PM) (CST)

Description

This hands-on family-friendly program will celebrate all the facets of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and how they came together to create the Webb Telescope, which is expected to launch into space in December of 2021. Explore how origami was crucial to the creation of the Webb Telescope, create a nebula print or Earth suncatcher, ask questions in a Q & A corner with an astronomy expert, and more. Thanks to NASA's StarNet, we have some commemorative postcard and stickers giveaways. A highlight: a telescope will be available for viewing outside, as the sky darkens (and if weather permits.) This program is free, but registration is requested. Walk-ins will be allowed as space/supplies permit. Activities are geared toward school-aged kids (kids 8 and younger need to have an adult attend with them). Masks are recommended or indoor group programs as long as the CDC advises. For questions, or to pre-register with the youth desk, call 641-754-5738, ext. 3
