The Marshalltown Public Library and Arts + Culture Alliance invites the community to take pART in a Slam Poetry Night, featuring Nebraska Poet Laureate, Matt Mason. The event will open with performances by Marshalltown High School’s Poetry Out Loud Students (names to be announced soon).

This event is free and open to the public. Please note, the event is geared towards teenagers and adults. More information about the event will be announced as the date gets closer!

When: Thursday, May 9^th at 6 PM

Where: Wayward Social*, 1101 S 6^th St, Marshalltown, IA 50158 *Weather dependent, our hope is to be outside at Gutter Point on the south side of Wayward Social.

Matt’s books will be available for signing and purchase at the event:

• At the Corner of Fantasy and Main: Disneyland, Midlife and Churros
• Rock Stars
• I Have a Poem the Size of the Moon

About Matt 

Matt Mason is the Nebraska State Poet and has run poetry workshops in Botswana, Romania, Nepal, and Belarus for the U.S. State Department. His poetry has appeared in The New York Times and Matt has received a Pushcart Prize as well as fellowships from the Academy of American Poets and the Nebraska Arts Council. His work can be found in Rattle, Poet Lore, Prairie Schooner, and in hundreds of other publications. Mason’s 5th book, Rock Stars, was published by Button Poetry in September of this year.
