The Marshalltown Central Business District (MCBD) is calling on community members to roll up their sleeves and join the Team Up to Clean Up event on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Downtown Marshalltown.
The cleanup will take place just days before Haunt the Block, one of the community’s most popular fall celebrations. Volunteers will help prepare downtown by picking up trash, pulling weeds, and taking on other small tasks to make sure the district is shining bright for residents and visitors alike.
Design Committee Co-Chair Travis Hornberg noted, “With each successive cleanup, we’ve observed a notable decline in the volume of waste collected — a clear sign that our Team Up to Clean Up efforts are making a lasting difference in the Central Business District.”
“This is about more than just tidying up. It’s about showing pride in our downtown and creating a welcoming space for everyone,” said Danielle Lekin, Executive Director of the MCBD. “When our community comes together, we’re not only improving the look of downtown, we’re also strengthening the bonds that make Marshalltown special.”
Participants are encouraged to bring friends and family. Garbage bags, gloves, and refreshments will be provided. Students looking for volunteer opportunities are welcome as this event does qualify for silver cord hours.
