Three World Premieres -- Original One Act Plays

Description

See three award winning one act plays at the Orpheum Movie Venue on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7:00 p.m., Saturday Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m., and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11.

Three plays--original, "world premieres" honored as winners of the Marshalltown Community Theatre's Playwriting Competition--kick off the 2026-2027 Season for the Community Theatre.

See "Impromptu--"The Almost Demise of Carter and Taffy Mitchell" by Justin Nostrala,

a comedy in which a young married couple play a game about marriage counseling, and learn that sometimes silly games can be risky to a marriage.

See "Two Old Farts" by Alexander Richarson,

a comedy where two grumpy fellows attend a performance of "The Bear" by Anton Checkov.  These fellows--the title characters--mange to disturb the actors and provide on-going commentary for the audience.

See "Belady's Anomaly" by Sara Lastine,

a play that competition judges said served up "tension and curiosity from the beginning" which was sustained throughout, and  was the kind of a show "which generates discussions and arguments for days after a performance."
